The texture of the night sky, a clear reference to Vincent Van Gogh, was created by a instrument scarcely used in western art. The brush was designed for Chinese calligraphy and the bristles are made so that they spread very responsively with pressure, creating a broad stroke, but returns quickly to a fine point to created sharp tips at the ends. This quick transition is important for Chinese calligraphy, and in this work, created the specific texture of the sky.
