The faceless hordes of spectators and the shadowy jockeys', the people in this work play ornament to the real stars, which are the horses in the chaotic Palio di Siena. One horse has fallen, with its jockey flung into a somersault and another one rears as its rider barely holds on. Meanwhile, flags fly has the pageantry of the Palio trumps the suffering of its human and equine participants alike.
